Net Metering - Wisconsin

Net metering in Wisconsin is authorized by Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) Order 6690-UR-107, effective January 1, 1993. Wisconsin is one of only two states (Minnesota is the other) to offer the retail rate for net excess generation (NEG), but unlike Minnesota it does so only for renewable resource generators; for nonrenewable resource generators the energy credit rate is the utility's avoided cost. Wisconsin's program is also limited to projects connected to Investor owned utilities. Some cooperative and municipal electric utilities have voluntarily adopted the rules.
