Billboard Bans and Controls
Four states currently ban billboards: Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont. It is no accident that these four states are known for their scenic beauty. Businesspeople in these states recognize that an unmarred landscape promotes tourism and benefits them in the long run. Billboard bans also level the playing field between local businesses and national chains in at least one advertising medium.
Two states [Rhode Island and Oregon] have prohibited the construction of new billboards and a handful of communities have chosen to cap on the number of billboards that can be constructed.

driver distraction
there's been a lot of discussion lately about use of cell phones & texting while driving as accident-causing distraction while operating motor vehicles. today, i even heard discussion of proposed laws against walking or bicycling while using cell phones. maybe these ideas have some merit, but let's get sane now, and step back to see the big picture. roadside advertising is INTENDED to distract the driver. if it doesn't distract, the ad company won't stay in business for long. i've seen some egregious examples of distracting signs and billboards, and it seems that the only limiting factors are obscenity or libelous content. all billboards should be banned EVERYWHERE. please pass this viewpoint around, if you share it.

billboards
I thought that Lady Bird Johnson (way back when) had helped pass a no billboards in all the states. I guess I am wrong. I will support "no billboards" in all the states though.
