New Information Subsector - Open Source / Open Standards

We have added a new sector to the Information Policy Area - Open Source / Open Standards. The first rule in this new sector is a recent resolution from Vancouver that will increase local government use of open standards, open source, and open/accessible data.

Open standards, open data, and open source are all important ingredients for locally self-reliant communities in the modern era. As modern life has become more dependent on computers, openness is an important check against the power of a single vendor or other entity from becoming unaccountable.

You'll find more details on the sector page or in the rules we will add over time.

The New Rules Project exists to encourage policies that will increase the political and economic power of citizens and communities.
