Colorado Independent Business Alliance Inspires Public Opposition to Home Depot

Silverthorne, CO — The hard work of the grassroots group, Summit County Independent Business Alliance (SIBA) is paying off, as area residents and media are increasingly vocal about protecting their local businesses and community from the potential detriments of a proposed Home Depot store.

SIBA has done such a good job of educating local citizens about the importance of local business that when Home Depot proposed a store in the town of Silverthorne, the area's major newspaper, the Summit Daily, received a flood of thoughtful letters warning of the many hidden costs. After initially declaring the development "inevitable," the Summit Daily has since reversed course. Its latest editorial concludes, "the big picture just doesn’t seem to add up."
